Kagehiro Uchida Biomarker Science (BMS) has identified many biomarkers that can be used for assessing disease-onset-risk by extensive pretomics studies. BMS has also developped "LOX index", a novel predictive biomarker for coronary heart disease and stroke (Clinical Cemistry 56: 4, 550-551,2010). BMS has been implementing contract studies to evaluate potential benefits of functional food materials to reduce disease-onset-risk. BMS is aiming to introduce risk-reducing products to people, as well as to show the risks they have. Moreover, BMS is implementing a joint resaech of a stem cell-based regenerative medicine for heart failure to assist commercialization of the technology (two patients have been successfully treated) . We are developing an acellular scaffold for the tissue engineering of heart valve, blood vessel, skin, cornea, skeletal muscle, and adipose tissue. Also, skeletal myoblasts are seeded in the scaffold to have a tissue engineered-skeletal muscle. We have shown they are able to move an artificial object by the electrical stimulation.
