It is well known that under aerobic conditions, the "nitrifier bacteria group" carries out oxidation decomposition of ammonia into nitric acid, and under anaerobic conditions, the "denitrification bacteria group" carries out reductive decomposition of nitric acid into nitrogen gas. We own fundamental patents for development of new anti-diabetics based on inhibition of alfa-glucosidase. Functional foods based on these patents have already been produced. We also conduct basic research on a variety of medicinal herbs and foods which have functions such as anti-aging and antimetabolic syndrome. Isolation, structure elucidation and determination of active constituents responsible for these functions are our main concern. We are looking for collaborators who can translate the fruits of our research into practical application. In our laboratory, we are investigating the pathophysiological roles of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases in cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and hypertension. We found that several anti-oxidative bioflavonoids, such as quercetin, inhibited ROS generation, MAP kinase activation and growth in vascular smooth muscle cells. We hope that we can make some drugs from natural nutrients such as bioflavonoids for treatment of cardiovascular diseases including metabolic syndrome. [Technology Classification]
