We own fundamental patents for development of new anti-diabetics based on inhibition of alfa-glucosidase. Functional foods based on these patents have already been produced. We also conduct basic research on a variety of medicinal herbs and foods which have functions such as anti-aging and antimetabolic syndrome. Isolation, structure elucidation and determination of active constituents responsible for these functions are our main concern. We are looking for collaborators who can translate the fruits of our research into practical application. Examples of functional foods developed by us are as follows, Salacia (anti-diabetic), Chaka (antimetabolic syndrome), Kanka (anti-oxidant). |

We have conducted research related to synthesis of naturally occurring organic compounds and are studying about organic chemical aspects of sugars. Chemical synthesis of natural products involves preparing organic products with complex chemical-structures via various steps of chemical reactions from simple organic compounds. We have pursued artificially-synthesizing methods of pharmaceutically active compounds which naturally occur in trace amounts and novel functional compounds. We have also developed novel reactions in order to synthesize objective compounds efficiently. With regard to the studies about sugars, we have recently succeeded in altering to a great extent, the characteristic structures which various sugars have in nature. Chain sugars consisting of many sugars play important roles in an organism. For example, they decide ABO blood type. However, even if we attempt to study the functions of natural chain sugars, they can be obtained only in trace amounts because there are a wide variety of sugars due to the fact that functions vary from sugar to sugar, their purification is difficult, and they are found in only trace amounts in the natural world. Accordingly we have conducted research with the objective of developing an efficient synthesis method of sugar chains using structure-altered sugars. |
