| Where is Kansai? |
In this site, the Kansai region is defined as a region which consists of eight prefectures: Fukui, Mie,
Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara and Wakayama.
The Kansai region is located near the center of Japan. With three
major cities of Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe, the Region is one of
Japan’s economic powerhouses.
Given its high concentration of leading-edge industries such as
robotics, nanotechnology and biotechnology, the Region is home to
major research and development hubs, including Katsura Innovation
Park and Kansai Science City in Kyoto Prefecture, Saito Life
Science Park and Umeda Kita Yard in Osaka Prefecture, and Kobe
Medical Industry City and Harima Science Garden City in Hyogo
Prefecture.
Furthermore, in Kansai, the major cities, each of unique character
(Kyoto and Nara are rich in nature, history and culture; Osaka is
a commercial and industrial center and Kobe has an exotic
atmosphere), are geographically close, within an hour’s travel
time from each other. In addition, train time from Kansai
International Airport, Japan’s only round-the-clock airport, to
Osaka City center is approximately one hour. Kansai boasts
competitive urban functions not found in other regions in Japan.
