About the Kansai Aircraft Industry Platform NEXT

With the aim of making the aircraft industry one of the pillars of next-generation industry in the Kansai region, METI-Kansai has established the Kansai Aircraft Industry Platform NEXT, which brings together major, medium-sized and small companies, industrial support organizations, financial institutions, research institutions, universities and local authorities, and is run by a joint secretariat of the Kansai Economic Federation and the New Industry Research Organization.
This platform promotes the creation of opportunities to enter the aircraft industry (matching, dispatch of experts, etc.) and the construction and strengthening of supply chains, including the establishment of QCD systems, for aircraft-related companies in the Kansai region and companies aiming to enter the aircraft industry, as well as the dissemination of new technologies such as electrification, hydrogen energy, lightweighting and innovative manufacturing technologies in line with green trends.

Aircraft industry production trends

Aircraft IIPIIP Note

In particular, in the Kansai region, aircraft fuselage parts and aircraft engine parts are among the items covered by the Index of Industrial Production of METI-Kansai.
While the production trend in the Kansai region after 2020 shows almost a flat trend, a rise in the production of aircraft engine parts can be seen nationally.

Directions for 2024

Aircraft Supply chain

Since the redefinition of the mission of our 'Kansai Aircraft Industry Platform NEXT' in 2022, the environment surrounding the industry has also changed.
Passenger demand, which bottomed out after the COVID-19 pandemic, is said to be returning to pre-COVID-19 levels in 2024, and the aircraft industry is also on a recovery path, particularly for small and medium-sized engines.
In addition, further opportunities to take on new challenges are expected, such as carbon neutrality, synergies with new industries such as flying cars and related industries such as defensee and space, and the expansion of overseas business, which is also driven by the easing of international traffic.
On the other hand, in order for companies in the aircraft industry to seize such opportunities and enjoy the fruits of growth, improvinge production capacity and establishing core competence through capital investment, recruitment, and development of human resources throughout the supply chain will be key.
Therefore, in FY2024, in addition to the existing initiatives, information will be more actively disseminated through exhibitions, and new initiatives will be undertaken on the theme of human resource development and exchange.
