Facility details / highlights

This antenna store exhibits and sells Kishu lacquerware, known as one of Japan's three major types of lacquerware, in the Kuroe district of Kainan City, where the historic townscape, registered as a Japanese Heritage site, still remains. In addition to exhibiting traditional lacquerware materials, trays, bowls, chopsticks, and other items are sold at reasonable local prices. Visitors can also try their hand at maki-e (reservation required), which is very popular as a fun and educational experience.

If you would like to experience maki-e, please make a reservation in advance by phone or e-mail.
Individual reservations (less than 10 people): Days Saturdays and Sundays 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Group reservations (10 or more people/reservations required at least one month in advance): Days Daily 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
*Last start time is 3:00 p.m.

Please be advised that we do not have elevators installed (the maki-e experience is held on the 3rd floor)

Tour only, 30-40 minutes (the maki-e experience is 1-2 hours)

Admission free (Maki-e experience: 2,000-3,000 yen)

We can manage simple English, but if possible please visit together with an interpreter.
