Takashimaya Archives has amassed a collection of 50,000 items, including historical documents since
the establishment of Takashimaya Department Store as a second-hand cotton clothing merchant in Kyoto
in 1831, artwork, and kimonos, which are on display to the public. First opened in 1970, the
Takashimaya Archives was renovated and reopened in 2020.
1.Takashimaya Collection Board
Visitors can view a carefully selected collection of 700 works
of art on an impressive large screen.
2.Takashimaya Collection Database
A digital catalog through which visitors can browse information on the
materials on display on the collection board.
3.Archives Exhibition Room
An introduction to the history and culture of department
stores.
4.Special Exhibition Room
Hosts various special exhibitions on diverse themes.
5.Mini Library
An area where visitors can read department store-related publications.
Also includes an
information area.
6.Multi-purpose Room
A flexible space for an array of purposes such as movies and events.

The exhibit captions in the archives display room are available in English. By scanning the QR code at the reception with a smartphone, you can access exhibit descriptions in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
The Takashimaya Collection Board, the Takashimaya Collection Database, and the digital timeline “The History of Takashimaya” are available in English. Leaflets, facility guides, and building guides are also available in English.
